A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
I’ve been doodling since I was able to hold a pencil. And as for storytelling? Well, that followed soon after. It was hard to separate the two, so I found myself obsessed with comics. I’m talking collecting bins upon bins of comic books and spending most of my days hanging out at the local comic book shop. If I wasn’t playing Magic the Gathering, I was flipping through a new book.
But comics weren’t the only thing I was addicted to. I couldn’t STOP writing. From creating comic books to writing short stories for my friends, one thing led to another, and I found it unavoidable to go to school for two things I was most passionate about. Storytelling and drawing. I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in NYC with a major in cartooning and illustration. And yes, people always laugh when I say I have a degree in cartooning.
For a few years, I worked as a colorist with Dark Horse, Image, and some other companies, but my calling came when I started writing novels. For the last five + years, I have been dabbling in MG and YA, and I am currently developing graphic novels and books that include illustrations (i.e. LAST KIDS ON EARTH). In the meantime, I work in IT and use my nerdy computer knowledge to pay the bills. But, I have still used my experiences in the publishing world to help co-found Middle-Grade Minded, a middle-grade book blog, as well as serving as a multi-year mentor in the Pitch Wars events.
